My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi!  My name is Harper and me and Hannah were living with a third small dog with our owner in rural south GA.  Hannah appears to be a chihuahua mix, is about 12mos old, and she only weighs a little under 11lbsOur owner's son came to ride out Hurricane Helene and brought his GSD who went after us small dogs.  Rather than separating us, he threw us outside to fend for ourselves; unfortunately, our friend did not make it but we survived by huddling under a car next to one of the wheels.  After the storm, our owner contacted a small local rescue to see if they would take us in as she didn't want us to get hurt.  A volunteer with that rescue contacted BCAA to see if they could help us and they said yes!  We are not bonded and can be adopted separately.   I appear to be a chihuahua mix, am about 12mos old, and only weigh a little under 11lbs; Hannah appears to be a maltese mix, is about 18mos old and she only weighs a little under 8lb.  We are both kind of shy when we first meet new people, but our foster mom has been super nice to us and it didn't take us long to trust her and now we love getting attention.  We have gotten along with all of the other small/medium sized dogs we have met and haven't bothered the cats.  Once we learned the schedule to go out we have done really well in our crate without any accidents; we aren't barkers either although we would prefer to be out with you and exploring.  We both love food and treats, and we have eaten side-by-side without any issues (we do see who can finish first!).  We are not good on leash as we probably never had one on before so we will require a physically secure fenced yard (I will need a 6' fence as I can easily go over a 4' fence in my quest to be near my person).

Submitting an application is always our first step - it's free to apply! bcaaofnj.org

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the applicant filling out an adoption application for the pet they are interested in. When they have completed and submitted the application, the screening process is started, which consists of a vet check, phone interview and home visit. Once all the steps are completed, we determine, by our findings, if they are approved, and if so, then they are allowed to adopt from our organization. The final step is they must complete the adoption contract, along with the donation for the animal, which goes into our medical fund to defray their medical costs. All of our animals are spayed and neutered, up to date on all their shots, including rabies, they are parasite free and on heartworm preventative.

More about this rescue

We are the Burlington County Animal Alliance (BCAA)located in Central New Jersey. We are a non-profit organization 501(3)(c), all volunteer rescue that saves animals from our local shelter and surrounding areas of New Jersey that are in danger of being euthanized. We take them into our program, get them the necessary medical care they need and adopt them back out to loving forever homes. We have 60 volunteers, many that open their homes to foster the homeless animals, we do fundraisers to raise money so we can continue to save the dogs and cats in need. We run strictly on donations from our adoptions and people who support our work.BCAA adopts to families in New Jersey, parts of Southeastern Pennsylvania and parts of New York.
