Here's what the humans have to say about me:
ALEX is a 50-lb, approximately 4-year-old lab mix, who needs YOU to be his HERO!
ALEX was dumped at a high-kill shelter, presumably by his owner, due to his tendency to chase livestock. ALEX is a curious, playful dude who was likely trying to make friends with the livestock because there is not a mean bone in this little guy's body. Due to his past, ALEX can be apprehensive and cautious in new situations. He is slowly learning that people can be kind and patient. He is eager to please, extremely affectionate and a big fan of belly rubs. Once ALEX learns you are a kind person, he just wants to be where you are.
Looking for a workout buddy? ALEX is your man. He loves taking walks and he is calm and is responsive to the person in control of the leash. He gives regular reminders to "stop and smell the roses, which is something we can all learn from ALEX. Based on his strong desire to walk and explore, we think ALEX would be a great hiking companion. Walking is so important for ALEX, especially in the morning. It is almost like his battery is recharged by walks and he sure shows it in the yard after walks when he lets out a solid 15 minutes of "zoomies.
ALEX is great with other dogs, especially playful ones who love to run. He doesn't need a housemate necessarily, but doggy playdates are more than welcome. ALEX is a leader, and he likes to be "the man of the house, so because of that, we don't recommend he live with dominant male dogs. While ALEX is not the type of guy to run to new people, he is totally cool with new people approaching him to introduce themselves. ALEX doesn't live with a cat, but he has met one cat in the neighborhood on walks. The cat has approached, and ALEX wasn't sure what it was all about and how to play with it. He does have a strong prey drive for squirrels and other small animals. Any cats in ALEX's forever home would need to be dog-savvy and owners who are experienced introducing dogs and cats.
Need to go for a few hours solo? No problem. ALEX is ok with chilling at home by himself in his crate, so long as you give him a biscuit and some toys to entertain himself. Favorite toys include soft soccer ball or basketball and stuffed animals. Beware of the stuffies, this guy likes to rip them to shreds from time to time. He is a big fan of anything paper so be sure to remove anything (TP, paper towels, etc.) within reach of ALEX to avoid having a mess or a sick dog!
ALEX is not a leg-lifter and doesn't mark in his foster mom's house. He is trying to figure out his way of communicating to his people that he needs to go out but has been making huge strides.
So back to ALEX's hero...his hero will:
- Have a backyard where he can run, play and let out his zoomies
- Have other playful dogs (no dominant males) or access to doggy play dates
- Be willing to give loads of affection and be willing to accept his affection and loyalty in return.

More about this rescue
A Lab for Life (ALL) provides a compassionate life-line to abandoned dogs that includes a safe haven, medical care by a licensed veterinarian, nutrition (food) and a fur-ever family through adoption. ALL promotes the humane treatment of animals in the community.
ALL was founded in July 2020 by a group of dog advocates in central Oklahoma and
Northeastern US after some had been volunteering with an out of state rescue for over 5 years. That experience solidified a local organization was needed. ALL formed to rescue as many stray, homeless and owner surrendered dogs as possible by partnering with many state-wide shelters and rescue operations. In addition to transferring homeless dogs from the shelters, fostering them in temporary homes and adopting them out, we also provide behavioral and medical resources to people who are considering surrendering their dog in an effort to keep the dog in their homes and out of the shelter/rescue system.
ALL operates under the 5 freedoms for animal welfare.
We are a brand new organization and welcome donations!
