Meet Jeffrey, the terrified Boston Terrier!
We rarely get Bostons as they are usually highly desirable happy friendly little dogs that don’t need our help and that other rescues seek out.
This puppy mill survivor is right up our alley though. This 2 year old 20lbs Boston is terrified of… well, pretty much everything besides other dogs 😔. People, noises, movements, leashes, being petted, pieces of paper… he’s not aggressive at all but cowers and runs to avoid. He comes alive around other dogs though, and was already playing and flirting with the little welcoming committee today! His eyes perpetually look like they are about to pop out of his head 😳 👀 (well some of that is his breed, but the terror doesn’t help). He’s going to need a pack of little dogs to follow and learn from, and very patient experienced adopters familiar with puppy mill behaviors and in it for the long haul with him. Housebreaking, leash walking, playing with toys, being cuddled and loved- they are all scary and foreign concepts right now and what he needs most is time to learn at his own pace, and from watching friendlier dogs. He is a MAJOR flight risk if he ever gets loose due to his fear and would run from humans and need to be trapped like a feral cat after days/weeks of tracking, so careful paranoid people only please for his safety.
Email njwoof@cs.com if you think you have the right household to help our little scared boy. He’s currently decompressing in foster in Northern NJ, has been neutered and updated on shots and seems to be in pretty good health overall luckily.
Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

We request that adopters fill out a pre-adoption application either in person at our adoption day or through our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com. This helps us make sure the animal's personality is a good match for your household. Adoption fees vary according to the dog's age, breed, adoptability, and how much we have had to spend in vet bill on them. Adopters sign a contract at the time of adoption, and the animal must come back to us if they do not work out in the home.
