My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Andrew
Male
Approx. 1 y/o
Neutered (10/21/24)
30lbs
Shepherd/hound mix

One of the loveliest pups to ever exist has made his way to Buffalo all the way from Texas Andrew is a petite lad who was living as a stray in Texas and found himself on the wrong person's property. We were notified that his life was being threatened, and with only a couple days to spare, his foster mom immediately tagged him for transport.

Andrew has really blossomed in just a few days! At first, he was very frightened and overwhelmed by so many new things, especially, being in a home. But with some time, Andrew's personality has come out full blast . He is super playful and such a wiggly, happy-go-lucky guy! He's always down for some pets, and he'll definitely contort into some weird positions if it means you'll rub his belly!

Andrew's happy place is definitely outside. His tail wags continously on walks ‍, and he really loves saying hi to new hoomans that pass him by! Andrew loves any and all sticks, bones and chewy treats. He'll also pick up any squeaky toy and swing his head back and forth for maximum toy demolition (Note: his toys remain in perfect condition despite his efforts).

He does pretty well in the crate while his foster mom is away for 9 hours at work. After he's able to settle, he sleeps the entire time.

Being a stray all his life, Andrew does have some puppy tendencies even at a year old! Because everything in the household is so new, he takes the approach that anything on the floor is fair game. This means that while he does play with toys, he is prone to picking up a shoe or whatever else is on the ground if he's not corrected. Luckily, Andrew is very smart and he's already starting to understand what a firm "no" means, and he's even learned a couple basic commands!!

Andrew is:
Dog Friendly
Child-Friendly
House-broken
A certified lap dog (rightfully so)

If you want to be the lucky person or family to call Andrew one of your own, you can apply for him at https://nickelcitycaninerescue.org/adopt-a-dog/ or message the rescue if you're pre-approved!

Additional adoption info

Thank you for your interest in adopting through Nickel City Canine Rescue! Please visit our Website and complete the Adoption Application. Once received, we will begin processing it as quickly as possible. Our process includes checking your personal and veterinarian references, a home visit, and a meet and greet.

1. Fill out the online application.

2. Once received, a volunteer will be assigned to your app. They will first make the reference calls and contact your vet.

3. After calls have been completed, the volunteer will contact you to set up a home visit. Please keep in mind this is a VOLUNTEER doing this in their free time, it may not happen immediately.

4. Once the home visit is completed and if you are approved, you will receive a pre-approval card and can then express interest in a dog.

**General Disclaimer- Once a dog is posted online it is open to receive multiple applications. We do not limit the number of apps and cannot guarantee the dog will be available by the time your home visit has been completed. If there are already pre-approved adopters interested, their names will be placed on the dog’s list. This is why we highly recommend getting approved ahead of time. If it is a popular dog, it will likely have a list of names before your application can be processed.

Once pre-approved:

Email or Facebook message the rescue stating your name on the app, the dog(s) you are interested in, and best way to contact you.

Your name will be placed on the dogs list. This is a first come first serve basis. We accept up to 5 names on each dogs list. You are NOT guaranteed a meet and greet as there may be people ahead of you on the list!

The dogs foster will reach out to set up a meet and greet if they get to your name. You may not hear from the foster immediately if there are people ahead of you meeting the dog.

If you have a meet and greet and both adopter and Foster think it’s the right fit, the adoption may be finalized.

If a dog gets adopted by another adopter ahead of you on the list, the dog will be removed from the website and the available dogs folder on Facebook. We try to send emails to notify adopters, but this is not an automated system and with so many dogs and names this may get missed on occasion. Feel free to message or email for an update. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at info@nickelcitycaninerescue.org

We do our best to respond to each email, inquiry, and application in a timely manner. Please be sure to monitor your email account and your phone to ensure we are able to contact you. Furthermore, please make sure your personal references, your veterinarian, and your landlord (if applicable) are aware that we will be calling to ensure no delays in processing your application. If you are concerned because you haven’t been contacted in a timely manner, please do feel free to follow up with us, check in, & let us that you are still interested!

*Currently we only adopt out within a 1 hour drive from the Buffalo Niagara airport. We will considered processing applications outside that area if the family has no other dogs in the home and is willing to come to buffalo for the Meet and Greet. The rescue does not provide transport services to out of town adopters

More about this rescue

We are a fostered based rescue located in the Greater Buffalo, NY area. We pride ourselves on being an all-breed dog rescue. We are a 50l(c)(3) organization and 100% of the money we raise goes towards the rescue and rehabilitation of the dogs in our care. We are 100% volunteer based, with no paid members or ownership. Although we primarily focus on dog rescue we cannot turn down a cat in need.

Since the rescue started its operations in November of 2018, we have rescued over 175 dogs across six states: Kentucky, West Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas. We have no intention of slowing down. Our volunteers work tirelessly to save these dogs from the terrible fate of euthanasia due to overcrowding at shelters across the nation.

Nickel City Canine Rescue does not receive any funding from the county, city, state, or federal governments. Our rescue does not receive tax dollars of any kind . . . we’re only able to assist the people and pets in need thanks to donations from the community.
