My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This cutie patootie is a girl on the GO! Fontina is Very Beagle: her little bod is packed full of a larger-than-life personality and enough energy to fuel a dog three times her size! She's super sweet and gentle, and she's always happy to stop by for a quick snuggle between bouts of intense sniffing. She truly seems to like everybody, both people and other dogs, and although she was a touch shy at first she's quickly discovering her inner social butterfly! Finlay can be pretty vocal in the kennel, so be prepared for a fair amount of her loudly yodeling the song of her people. Like we said: Very Beagle! (Hopefully - but definitely not guaranteed! - the yodeling will be less when she's in a home and not vying for attention the way she is here)

Fontina is one of several beagles and beagle/basset hound mixes found abandoned in the same area over the course of this year, so it's possible she also has a touch of basset in her; however, she's very much a beagle-sized and beagle-personalitied dog. So we must also include the Beagle Disclaimer:

Don't let the small size fool you! Unlike some small breed dogs, beagles are workers at heart. They need lots of exercise and stimulation, and they need supervision...because they will follow those noses anywhere, including right out of your yard and into trouble. When adopting a beagle, it's a good idea to be prepared for a big dog's needs, and simply consider the pick-uppable 20 lb size a nice bonus.
