My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Apply to Adopt Me!

Meet Marcelita (aka Marci aka Marci girl)…a 45lb., 3 1/2-year-old beautiful mixed breed. Marci is our special gal who recently had to have her eyes removed due to chronic and painful glaucoma, pressure and retinal degeneration. Although she may have been born with some of these issues, Marci came to our rescue from the Bahamas, where she was brutally beaten, and which may have contributed to her acute blindness. Her lack of sight has not stopped her zest for life, and she quickly maps out her area inside and out. She gets around great, loves to nap and sunbathe outside in a secure fenced yard. She will come with a halo, which can be used by her adopter until she learns her boundaries. She is gentle, but is also strong. She absolutely loves her big bed with her pillows and blankets. She loves to be covered and to nuzzle her nose in her blanket. She is 100% housebroken and walks well on a harnessed leash. She is the sweetest and kindest soul and doesn’t make a peep.  She gets along great with dogs her size and even little dogs, as well as a cat. She does well with all people, but can be a little timid at times. She loves the back of her ears rubbed and likes to be brushed. She prefers to be in a room where everyone else is. For those concerned if a blind dog can have a normal life - the answer is YES!  Marci's foster mom has two blind pups of her own. Steps to help blind dogs in a home include placing various texture floor rugs and mats down to help them know where they are within a space. Marci is a happy, quiet, laid back, sweet gal looking for her very best friend and she will certainly return so much love. We are requiring her adopter to be home more often than not, and to have a fenced yard where she loves to wander off leash, getting all her sniffs in. We also require the home to be non-cluttered, be one story, and have no deep steps for her to exit into the fenced space. Steps to help a blind dog in a home include placing various texture floor rugs and mats down to help her know where she is within a space. If you believe you have the perfect home for gentle soul Marci, please complete an app for her and tell us more about your family.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501(c)3 dog rescue. We take owner surrenders and we pull from local shelters. We, like so many others, are just trying to make a difference.
