Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Ichabod is a very playful six month old domestic short haired love bug. When he came in, he had a severe case of upper respiratory issues probably from being outside. He was found in the middle of the highway in a cardboard box and has been melting the hearts of the ACARF staff since he arrived. He has been through several rounds of medication and has been cleared of any other possible health risks but will sometimes still sneeze when he gets super excited. He is litter box trained and loves any toy you give him but prefers your hand. When he does get playful it`s very easy to redirect him and he typically doesn`t bite hard. He gets along with every cat and human he meets and even though is nervous of dogs I`m sure he`d warm up quickly. He loves to be the center of attention whether it be zig-zagging through your legs, chasing the broom when you`re trying to sweep, or physically jumping into your arms he is determined to get the attention. Ichabod`s purrs are so loud you can hear them instantly as you walk through the door and if you don`t immediately say hi to him, he`ll speak at you until you do. When holding him he is known to lick and suckle on chins and earlobes, and he absolutely loves playing hide and seek in your hair. Ichabod`s adoption fee is $75 which includes his neuter, up to date on all shots, deworming, flea treatment, nail trim, and a microchip.

So you’ve met one of our cats or dogs whom you want to make part of your family? That’s great! What’s the next step?
First, you need to fill out an application. Applications are available on our “Applications/Forms” page, at our website: acarf.org. The application can be submitted online.
Although it helps to be the first person to file an application for a pet, this may not guarantee that you will actually be the chosen adopter. Our first concern must always be finding the best situation–for our adopters, and for our adoptable pets.
Once you have been approved to adopt an animal, we will make an appointment with our contracted veterinary care provider (Red Barn Veterinary Service) to have your pet spayed or neutered. Spaying/neutering our adopted animals is required by the State of Kansas. We also will microchip your pet. You will need to complete an adoption agreement form and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is posted at the shelter, and is subject to change. Paperwork and fee payment must be completed during our weekday hours of operation: Monday through Saturday, 11:30am to 5:00pm. Saturdays are for visiting and viewing only; no adoptions will be completed on those days, unless prior arrangements have been made. Special situations, such as adopters who live far away or are unable to leave work or school during weekday business hours, are dealt with on a case by case basis. We are excited that you are adopting from us, and want to make it as easy as possible!
Once your paperwork is completed, microchipping has occurred, and spaying/neutering is done, you can take your new pet home. Usually, you can pick up your pet the next day following surgery, either at the veterinarian’s office or at the shelter.
Some adopters choose to have their pet spayed/neutered with their regular veterinarian. If you do not use the services of our contracted vet and take your pet out unaltered, there will be a spay/neuter deposit of $125 (in addition to the adoption fee). The $125 deposit is refundable when you submit proof of spay/neuter, which must be done within 90 days. In this case, you would also be responsible for all spay/neuter charges. Some of our long-distance adopters find this option preferable to making two long trips.
