My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there, I’m Doozy and my DNA report says I’m an American Staffordshire Terrier/Chow Chow/Parson Russell Terrier/Beagle mix and I sure am handsome! I am about 2-½ years old, weigh 70 lbs, and am looking for a new forever home. Long story short… I was one of 3 puppies in San Antonio Texas, 3 months old, weighed 10 lbs and the city shelter listed me as a Jack Russell Terrier blend. I was adopted and moved to Connecticut, with everyone assuming I would grow up to about 20 lbs, but I never stopped growing! I ended up way too big for people needing a small-sized dog, and although I am a wonderful boy, and they love me so much, they know I’d love having room to run and flourish in a roomier environment!

I am a very nice, medium-energy boy with a go-with-the-flow personality, I love to play, and I get along great with all people young and old. I’m friendly with other dogs and the little doggy friends I meet, I will get down low on the ground and play with them at their level, like a sweet gentle giant! I love doggy toys, playing fetch, tug-o-war, and I’m a very fast and agile runner. I’m a whiz at puzzle toys, and puzzle bowls, gobbling down my kibble like there is no better meal on earth! I’m obedient and affectionate, and if you don't mind 70 lbs on your lap, then I’d like to think I’m a lap dog! I can be left home alone free to wander around without any shenanigans or bad behavior. I’m fully housebroken, love going for walks, and am excited to go along on a ride in the car. I don't mind a crate but I don't need one. I never chew anything but my toys, and have never had a potty accident indoors. I sleep soundly at night on a bed or my favorite couch and sleep in in the morning, with no rush to go out. I’m ready for a new beginning and I promise I’m done growing, LOL!

Additional adoption info

Please DO NOT apply unless the entire family / household is on board with adopting one of our dogs. We must receive an application for you to move forward in the process. Thoughtful direct emails are welcome and will be answered. However, an application is still a necessary step. We want to make sure we find our dogs a perfect fit with a family so both the dog and the family are happy. We keep our dogs with fosters once we get them out of shelters for a little bit to learn and understand their personalities. Our relationship with families doesn't stop at adoption! We are always available for any follow up questions and are happy to be a resource as you and your new pet settle into a routine.
