To start off, you may be wondering where I got the name Pretty Girl from? I was brought into a shelter in Downey, CA where the staff gave me this cute name. After staying there for a month, I got to know that it was a high kill shelter, and although I am indeed a Pretty Girl, I ended up on the '72-hour euthanasia list.' You see, I was very scared at this shelter. For 30 days, I stayed in my kennel 24/7 and refused to leave. I did not go on a single walk and did not want to interact with anyone. I was afraid, traumatized and frozen. Upon being rescued, I'm slowly coming out of my shell at my foster family's house and trying to live the stress-free comfy life. It's all new to me. BTW, 'Coco' was added to my name by my foster family, so now I am known as Pretty Girl Coco.

I did not have a good experience in my past home, so I may be a bit timid/shy of you at first, especially men. But I know not all humans are bad. Give me just a little time and I will warm up to you. My foster parents use the word 'gentle' to describe me. I would agree. I am gentle with everyone I meet, hoomans of all age and sizes - but I am a bit weary of new people at first. In my foster home, I live with 2 other female dogs. My foster-sisters have really shown me how to be a normal dog and how to get over the trauma I have experienced because of not-so-kind humans in my past. Anyway, no more mention of my past anymore. Let's move on to something positive.

I will try to make you smile everyday! I’m happy, laid-back and full of love. I promise I will be a ray of sunshine in your life. I am looking for a loyal companion who can be patient with me while I adjust to a new home. I just need someone who’s consistent, understanding, and can be a firm but gentle leader. If that’s you, I promise I’ll reward you with unconditional love!
I’m really smart and already know “sit” and “come“ "down” and “stay,” and soon I’ll be learning “go to my spot” in obedience class. I love to learn, especially if you have treats! (Hint: I’m super motivated by food.) I’m working on my crate training and getting more comfortable with car rides—they’re still a little scary for me, but I’m improving. Oh, and I am also fully housebroken, so you don't have to worry about that.

I love to play and get along great with other dogs—my pack mates are my best friends! I’m still a puppy at heart, so I really love to chew. Make sure you’ve got plenty of safe chew toys for me, I also love frolicking around in the backyard and going for walks with my foster mom. I would love to be in a furever home where my new family could slowly take me to new places and show me that the world isn't a scary place. I'd like to see what a beach is, I'd like to go to a dog-friendly restaurant, maybe even a dog park in the future or a camping trip? Right now, I am still easily spooked of new places, but I hope to experience all these things with YOU!

Once I’ve warmed up to you, I’m super snuggly and affectionate. I’ll be your cuddle buddy and shower you with love. I’m ready to be your forever companion, learning and growing with you every step of the way!

*Side note from the founder of ACZ - We do not understand how such well behaved dogs like Pretty Girl Coco end up at the dog pound. She does not even have 'one bad bone' in her body. There are so many well tempered, kind and gentle dogs at dog shelters who are very scared and just want love and nothing more. Please adopt a shelter dog today and save their life [literally...]
