My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Debbie (Deb@AmericanbulldogRescue.org) for more information about this pet.

Age: About a year

Weight: 55 lbs Brutus is gaining weight and may be about 65-70 pounds when he reaches a healthy weight.

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Nicknames: Brutus Michael, Brutie

Good with other dogs?: Yes! He is such a love!

Good with cats? Yes, Brutus lives with 3 cats in his foster home.

Good with children? Unknown. Brutus loves everybody! While he probably would do well with kids, he does steal things to chew and a kid's toys, shoes, school bags/books, and sports equipment would be a huge temptation.

Activity Preference: Will go with the flow, likes car rides, likes walks, playing with his canine foster sister, naps, no-hides, bones, and stuffies. Brutus is learning how to be a normal puppy and play.

IQ: Brutus pays very close attention to his foster mom and things going on around him. He's not the smartest kid in the class but he is super cute!

Brutus' favorite things: Brutus loves being with his foster mom and his canine foster sister. He's up for car rides, doing errands, or cleaning up around the house and yard. He loves tug-a-war with his canine foster sister, marrow bones, stuffy toys, learning new things, going for rides, taking walks.

Brutus is good at: riding in a car, meeting people, getting along with other animals, being a cuddle buddy, following commands, staying in the crate for short times, learning good manners.

Ideal home:  a fenced yard, someone home most of the time, another dog who matches his personaility and activity, an active home where Brutus will get lots of playtime and walks.

Training Needs: Brutus is still learniing how to just be a puppy and how to 'dog', learning commands, working on leash manners.

Health issues: None. But he is still gaining weight so making sure he continues to eat three times a day to slowly put on the pounds.

Meet Brutus:

Poor baby Brutus was found as a stray and taken to a city shelter.  He was emaciated with an infected wound where he was shot in the face/head with a bb gun! Brutus has overcome the trauma of his previous life and is thee sweetest, goodest boy! He's still a little shy when hands move too fast near him but is otherwise doing so well. He is a happy boy who loves playing and having fun!  He was tolerant of the frequent cleanings of the infected wound from the bb shot. He actually seemed grateful. Brutus greets anyone who comes into his foster home as a great friend he hasn't seen in years with excitement and lots of kisses! Brutus is not winning awards in any 'watchdog' department. LOL  He lives with 3 cats and has not given up trying to be friends with them. They are not having it. Brutus shares his foster home with Winnie (also adoptable) and they are besties! Brutus has brought out behavior in Winnie that we haven't seen before! She is so playful and affectionate with him and seems so happy since his arrival! We think Brutus is a special little angel! Brutus follows Winnie around learning how to be a dog. He's done great with his house training thanks to consistency and Winnie! Their foster mom still has to go outside with them but hey who wouldn't walk their friend to the bathroom!? LOL  Brutus would do best where he is not alone for too long during the day, a canine companion, a fenced yard, and lots of opportunity for mental and physical activity.
