My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Moji!!!
This beautiful sweet boy is deaf but don’t let that deter you, he’s a fantastic and fun loving family dog. With some cool hand signals you can still communicate with him❤️
Moji is an approx. 2 year old, male, Lab mix. There are probably some other breeds mixed in but we are not sure. He weighs 57 pounds and should be full grown. He has been neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccine. He is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions.
He is super sweet. He has a playful spirit and just loves everyone. He is not jumpy or reactive when startled or touched. That can be an issue for deaf dog’s but not for him. He definitely thinks hes a lap dog and wants all the couch cuddles. He also loves blankets. He will be the happiest boy with a pile of blankets to curl up on.
Moji loves other dogs. He loves to run and play. He can be a little much at times so another playful tolerant dog would be best. Deaf dogs can sometimes struggle with learning the body language of other animals. He can’t hear them growl Etc so it takes him a bit to understand they have had enough play. With playful dogs that enjoy his company he has been wonderful. He has not been around cats yet. He was at the shelter with Neya (also posted) and they were besties there. He came to us with Jewel (also posted) and they became best playmates right away. If you are looking for two dogs he loves either of those little ladies.
He absolutely loves kids. He is fostered with a 5 year old and he does amazing. He loves to chase her around the yard and then they switch and she chases him. He is overall very gentle with kids and loves to curl up and sleep or relax on the couch with them.
Moji is okay on car rides they are still new to him but he does well. He is doing decent with leash training but can have moments where he pulls and walks all over the place in a zig zag pattern. He is crate trained but needs some encouragement to go in and can whine a bit once inside. He has done really well with potty training. He has marked inside the house but was just neutered so we are hoping to see that behavior fade away. He does already know how to use a doggie door.
He is very food and treat motivated which helps a lot with training. He does take treats very gently though. He will quickly try to grab any dropped human food. If your dog doesn’t share well this could create an issue. He’s gotten good with eating food on a separate side of the room from another dog or in his crate. We suspect he may not have always had food in his previous home so this may fade with time. He has no issues at all sharing with people.
Moji has a moderate energy level. He loves to go wild running around the yard but also has the lap dog, cuddle in all the blankets with you side. He would do best with a fenced yard as he needs to exercise some and without his hearing it’s hard to recall him back to you reliably.
He is doing great learning the hand signals. He is very treat motivated which helps so much with his training. We would be happy to show any prospective adopters how to communicate with him and how to continue his training. We are also working to train him on a vibration collar to aide in getting his attention so he can look to you for the hand signals. Deaf dogs can be so amazing and learn just like a dog that can hear.
Overall he is such a sweet and gentle soul. Anyone taking a chance on his is going to be getting a very special dog all around.
