My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nuzzle up with Nico!

Hi pals, I’m Nico! I’m a 2-year-old, 25 lb Spaniel/Terrier mix with a sweet, mellow vibe. I came from a pretty packed house (18 dogs!) but now I’m looking for a cozy, stable home where I can relax and be your best bud.

I’m a pretty laid-back guy—love being outside on walks, exploring the world with my nose, but I’m also perfectly happy lounging at home and keeping you company. I might not jump for joy at meeting other dogs, but I’m polite and give them space. And if you’re looking for someone to hang out with while watching TV or reading a book, I’m your guy! I’ll sit beside you and give you the sweetest little stare to ask for pets.

I’ve had some separation anxiety lately (I might have chewed through a door—oops!), but I’m working on it. Life has thrown me a lot of curveballs lately and I’m adjusting to my new spaces. With some stability and patience, I know I’ll get the hang of it! I’m potty trained, good on a leash (though sudden noises can make me a nervous/flight risk), and I’m getting used to my crate, but I’d prefer to be with my humans as much as possible.

If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal companion who loves to chill but can enjoy the outdoors with you too, then we might just be the perfect match! What are you waiting for? Let’s meet and life happily furever after!

My adoption fee is $400 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
