My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lyra's story is one of incredible resilience and a testament to the enduring spirit of a dog. Despite the horrific abuse she endured, Lyra remains a sweet, loving companion. She's particularly fond of children and is showing incredible courage as she heals.
A playful and energetic young lady, Lyra embodies the typical GSP's love for running, playing, and cuddling. She's highly motivated and eager to please, but is currently working on her manners. While she gets along with other dogs, slow introductions to dominant females are recommended.
Lyra is making progress with leash manners and enjoys playing fetch in the yard. She readily goes into her crate for treats and settles down quickly. Currently on a diet of 4-5 meals a day, Lyra has gained weight, increased energy, and developed a vibrant personality. She loves toys, balls, and sleeping on a dog bed beside her human's bed.
If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and energetic companion, Lyra may be the perfect dog for you. Please fill out an application to learn more about Lyra.
Lyra's adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers her spay, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care she may have needed while in the rescue's care.
We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website www.northernlakesrescue.org

Northern Lakes Rescue wants to make adopting your next pet the best experience you have in adopting a pet. When you see a animal you are interested, in we encourage you to email us at info@northernlakesrescue.org with what dog you are interested in.

NLR is 100% volunteer run, and we do our best to respond within 48 hours to all email inquiries regarding adoptions.

All adoptions will require an application, home visit, personal and vet references and a meet and greet. Our adoption fees range from $300-425 depending on the dog.
All dogs over 6 months of age will be spay/neutered, vaccinated to age and micro-chipped. Puppies being adopted will require a spay/neuter and vaccine contract.

Finalizing an adoption includes signing a contract and paying the adoption fee.

Go meet their pets

Northern Lakes Rescue is foster based so all dogs are being fostered by amazing volunteers across the state of MN. Because of this, we require all meet and greets to be scheduled after an application is submitted.

Our focus after you apply is to get you scheduled to meet the dog within 3 to 7 days.

More about this rescue

Our Vision is to be a voice for those who are voiceless. We hear them with our hearts and give them a voice. Looking into the eyes of a rescued animal will speak volumes; watching those eyes light up will have an everlasting impact on you and the rescued animals.

We aren’t a typical rescue as we don’t take in dogs and put them in kennels until they’re adopted. All dogs we rescue are placed in loving foster homes that teach them to be the best dog they can be.

Our journey doesn’t end with adoption, either. We are here for you to support you in integrating your new member into your home, cheer new triumphs, and help with struggles.
