This helps Heartland Small Animal Rescue with pet care costs.
Trixie is a 5 pound, 6 yr old Pomeranian Princess. Trixie has made outstanding progress since she entered her foster home. She came to Heartland Small Animal Rescue with several other dogs that were rescued from a hoarding home. Trixie was underweight, had scratched the hair off her legs, tail and some of her face. Trixie was very distrustful of any people in her foster home. She would sit in the room her foster family was in and watch them with the other dogs. She watched how they played with them and how they snuggled with them.
When they tried to pick her up, she would run in the other direction. She ran from them so much that she had to be on a leash to go outside or she would not come back in, if they were lucky enough to pick her up, Trixie would completely freeze. She did this for almost 3 weeks. Then one day……
She jumped in her foster mom‘s lap, approached family members to be petted and actually became a velcro dog. She follows her foster mom everywhere when all of the dogs go outside she tries to play a little, but really just goes potty then runs back to whoever took them outside, and jumps on their leg to get picked up! She sleeps and snuggles all the time!
And when someone comes home, her tail wags non stop, her whole body wags with her tail and she barks with total excitement that someone came home. With good food, and a few McDonald’s hamburgers, her hair is starting to grow back!
Trixie”s ideal forever home, would be a quiet house, no young children, there can be other small dogs, and a family that will understand that Trixie may take awhile to trust them. But when she does, she never wants to leave your side. Her family should be willing to continue to work on her socialization. In her current foster home, she goes for car rides whenever possible, they take her to stores that allow dogs and ask people to talk to her, pet her on the back and try to give her a treat (Trixie LOVES food) She hasn’t taken a treat from a stranger yet, but has come very close. She does get the treat from her foster mom.
Trixie is waiting to give her forever family all her love!
