My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Quill:

She came to the BC SPCA after her owner passed away. She came to us quite scared and fearful and staff and volunteers have been working diligently with her to help find out what she requires to thrive. Here's what we've discovered:

Quill thrives on predictability and stability, it takes her a long time to become accustomed to a new environment but once she is she is very outgoing. She needs a quiet environment so we are looking for a home with no small children, and may be best to be the only animal.

She loves to play! Despite her age, she adores string toys sometimes approaching them with the delight of a kitten.

She has boundaries and a petting threshold so she needs someone who will respect her personal space. She needs to be with someone who is VERY cat savvy, she has subtle behavioral cues when she's uncomfortable and she needs someone who can read them.

Quill knows that she's asking a lot, but we are confident with the right person and the right environment Quill will thrive. She loves the people who she trusts, and can be very affectionate. She's also very smart and food motivated, and can be rather like a dog at times. Quill is a gorgeous, intelligent cat and she has many good years ahead of her.

If you have a stable, quiet home suitable for Quill, please apply through the link below.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
