My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Onyx:

Onyx came into our care as a stray so we don't know a ton about his history. We don't think Onyx has had a ton of positive experiences with humans in the past as he is quite an anxious boy. He has been progressing well in care (he LOVES catnip) so we think in a quiet, loving home with a patient human who can give him a place where he can feel safe he'll learn to trust people and his personality will eventually shine through. Starting off in a smaller room where he can feel safe and become familiar with his new family would be helpful for his adjustment to a new home. He also loves treats, so tasty treats may be the way to heart. Having a resident cat savvy feline in the home may also help him to gain his confidence.

Can you give Onyx a loving home where he can finally feel safe, and his personality can shine through?

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
