My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks

Date into Rescue:  10/05/2024
Reason for being in rescue: Owner surrender/Health of owner
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Charlie Brown is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Charlie had some fleas when we got him, and he has been treated for those, but we are on the lookout for tapeworm segments as these often accompany fleas. Tapeworms can be up to 3 months incubation so his new family will also have to be on the lookout. His hair is also a bit rough in spaces due to flea bites, but this will grow out. He is flea free now!
Weight: 32 lbs and he is far too thin. Charlie needs to put on at least 8 lbs
Height: 21 in at the shoulder
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? Charlie would love a fenced in yard and he has always had one but, if you have a plan in place for 3 days per week off leash exercise (at least an hour) and he was able to go on 2 or more-mile walks at least once per day, we think he would be happy and receive the exercise he needs to be a well-behaved pup.

What kind of home would be best for me? Charlie is looking for love. He co-exists with other dogs his size and smaller although right now, because he is hungry, we make sure when food or treats are around that Charlie has space and no one can interfere with his food. It is very important to him, and he will snap at other dogs who get too close to his bowl.  You will need to understand that Charlie is underweight, and we feel his nutrition was not the best and he is now appreciative of good food. He most likely needs puppy food for several more months.

Charlie is a smaller standard and we do not think he will ever get above 40 lbs. He would do well in an apartment, a townhouse or a single-family home. He would love the wide-open ranges of a farm. He is a very versatile kind of guy. We have not yet tested Charlie with cats.  If you have cats, please let us know so we can introduce him to a few feline friends.

What is my personality like? Charlie's owner loved him very much but an accident a few weeks after she purchased him sidelined her long term and sadly, she had to give up her baby so she could heal. She has a long road ahead of her and did what was best for Charlie by giving him up.

Charlie is an even tempered, middle of the road kind of guy.  For his age, he can be very chill and happy. He will come to you if called but he can also be laid back and happy.  As his energy increases as he gains weight, this may change a bit, but we don't think so.  He's simply a well-balanced puppy growing into a wall balanced dog. He is a go with the flow kind of guy.

Like most poodles, what Charle wants the most is a person to be his leader, his friend and his BFF. Charlie loves attention. He would make a great walking or hiking partner, would love a basic obedience course and would do well in therapy dog work (with some training). More than anything, Charlie wants to do things with you, so his home needs to be a home that understands this breed is always a companion dog first and foremost.

How do I act when I first meet new people?  Very friendly and happy

Other tips and tidbits: Charlie's birthdate is 03/06/2024.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
