My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sunny!

Sunny is a 5 month old small mixed breed puppy looking for her forever home! This little sweetheart has mastered the biggest puppy dog eyes and has the cutest disposition. This poor girl was brought to animal control after being dumped in the middle of a forest preserve with evidence of head trauma. Brought into a foster home to recover, Sunny has grown and thrived despite her shy nature.

She has made friends with both large and small dogs, her best friend being a Great Pyrnees mix. Sunny has even gotten the household cat to warm up to her. She is their little shadow around the house and enjoys walking the fence line with the pack, though she is still working up the courage to go adventuring on her own. Humans are her second best friend and want to be part of all the action. One of her favorite pastimes is napping in bed beside you.

Right now, Sunny is crate-trained and currently working on potty-training. She is learning that peeing on pee pads is a good choice and is getting braver about doing business outside so long as she has a good support system. Her leash skills aren’t perfect, but they are improving every day!

This pocketful of sunshine can be shy at first when it comes to new people, but warms up quickly. This little pup is attention motivated and loves her toys, though needs the occasional reminder which ones are hers! She is still very much a puppy and likes to explore with her mouth. Sunny swears she is practicing her best manners though!

Sunny is looking for the perfect family to give her their unconditional love and attention. She needs someone who will take things at her pace and help boost her confidence.

Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.

We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process.

Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details.

Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
