My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions. We are so happy tpo report Adair is in a foster home and this is what they have to say:

"Adair stole my heart the first moment I saw her fragile soul. This sweet girl was known as the most scared and withdrawn. Words like feral were being used. I just knew she had something in her that was wanting to break free. I decided that moment I was going to take her into my home and allow her the time to heal from her past. Showing her patience and love was what would flip that switch. When we arrived at my home mid October it took her over an hr to muster up the courage to crawl out of her transport crate. That disgusting place we rescued her from, made her a defeated dog. She was just a shell of a dog, petrified of everything and everyone. She needed to start life over to be able to blossom, and that is exactly what she is doing in "her" time.

Adair began slowly learning to trust in me and now she walks like an angel on a leash, she initiates eye contact, she is crate trained, house broke and learning to make friends with humans and dogs. I couldn't be more proud of her, seeing the fear dissipate and her actually make eye contact filled my heart with joy."

It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.

As we continue to assess the individual needs of these deserving animals, additional information to come, so please check back for more updates...  Adair is believed to be Golden/Great Pyr/Lab mix, and she is ready for her forever family. She will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard as she is considered a flight risk due to lack of socialization and human love. She will need a family with the time and patience to work with her through any insecurities she may have.

More about this rescue

Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months, this “wet behind the ears” group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND). The rest, as they say, is history!
