Meet Gravy, a charming and affectionate 8-month-old pup who's been waiting for his forever home since he was abandoned outside the shelter on 10/16. Friendly and social, he's a people-lover who greets everyone with wags and wiggles, often trying to climb into laps for some extra love.
Gravy is playful and engaging, happy to lean in for pets and take treats gently (though he can get a little jumpy when he's excited). While he's done well meeting other dogs one-on-one, he can get overstimulated around multiple dogs in the kennel environment. An adult-only home where he can soak up all the attention would be the perfect fit for this sweet, lively boy.

Behavior Notes:
11/4/24 volunteer notes: came in to get Gravy out for a run first thing this morning. He was sleeping on his bed when I approached his kennel. I whispered his name and he hopped right up and was ready to be leashed. Outside he did his business and we were off for our 2.5 mile run. He's a great running partner, let me set the pace and staying by my side the whole time. We took a break to work on sit and taking treats gently - he's a pro at both - and is learning paw.
Post run we hit up the big yard out front of the shelter for a game of fetch. I'd heard how much this boy loves tennis balls and wanted to be sure he got the time to play. Every time I tossed the balls he chased them and ran them back. Once he had enough he laid down in the grass, w his tennis ball at his feet and rested.
We shared some pets, love, and even a few kisses before I walked him back to his kennel. Gravy is such a good boy. He'd make an incredible addition to a home w a dedicated human who wants to spend time training and bonding with him.
11/2/24 staff noted: Took out Gravy with a volunteer - he was easy to leash and take out of kennel. Walked nicely on leash and was eager to go outside. He initially pulled when the gate opened to the large grassy area, but then walked in pace with his handler. He enjoyed sniffing around. Once in the yard, he laid down and began chewing on a ball. He allowed petting and played fetch and would trade for other toys. He was very well mannered and very sweet.
11/1/24 staff noted: Gravy went on a day trip with a volunteer and their friend. He took a nice walk and did great! They also took him to PetSmart where he picked out a toy (a stuffed lamb with pumpkins on it) and he has used it to comfort him in his kennel. It is still intact today (11/2)
10/31/24: volunteer notes: Gravy is an affectionate boy. He is strong and pulls on the leash a lot. He appears to be good with other dogs based on our interactions.
10/17/24 volunteer notes: Meet Gravy! This fella is a social, friendly pup who loves being around people. He greets everyone with happy tail wags and will quickly declare himself your best friend -he's been known to try and climb into your lap for extra cuddles if you'll allow!
While he takes treats gently, Gravy can get a little excited at times and may get snatchy, it's all part of his playful personality. He loves to play making him a great fun-loving pup-panion. If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate dog to brighten your days, Gravy is ready to be your best friend!
10/17/24 staff noted: When returning to kennel, Gravy saw many dogs in passing and became a little reactive. He started growling and snarling at other dogs and tried to fence fight with anther dog. I pulled him back away from the kennels and he snapped towards me. I put him back in the kennel and brought him back out later on for a dog meet as I assumed it was dog reactivity. He did great for his dog meets, gate greeting and face to face and showed no reactivity. When returning the second time he went right in and it was more quiet in kennel.

Gravy was at the front of the kennel and came up wiggly with soft eyes and wags. Very patient for leashing and exited without issue.

Gravy was very social in the room and friendly with all handlers. He greeted each person with tail wags and soft eyes. He allowed all over handling without issue and would lean in when petting him and would try to climb into our laps frequently and leaned in for pets. He took treats gently but could be impatient at times and get snatchy or jumpy.

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.
