My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi!  My name is Heidi and I am looking for a forever home.  I was picked up by animal control as a stray in rural GA shortly before Hurricane Helene hit the area.  Due to overcrowding and animals being dropped off at the shelter by folks evacuating from Florida because of Hurricane Milton's pending arrival, I heard I was put on something bad called "the list".  A small local rescue came by the shelter to help by pulling some dogs on this list and luckily I caught her eye; she then asked our BCAA GA volunteer if they could help me and they said yes!  I appear to be a small flat coat retriever mix with my beautiful curly black coat and I only weigh around 24lbs (my pics make me look bigger but my foster mom says that's real deceptive 'cause I'm not big at all!), and at approximately 8mos old I shouldn't get too much bigger.  I was a little shy when first coming into foster but I quickly come out of my shell once I learned I was safe, get lots of good food and treats and get to play with other dogs.  I am young and do have some energy so I'm always up for an adventure and would make a great jogging or camping partner.  I have gotten along with the other dogs my size or bigger but I do have what is known as an alpha personality.  I have shown some interest in cats so a home without them would probably be best for me.  I have done really well in my crate without any accidents or tearing up of any bedding, but if I see or hear you I may let you know not to forget about me as I would prefer to be out with you.  I have done ok on leash but do pull some in my excitement in being out and the possibility of an adventure, but my foster mom says I'm a really smart girl and with a little training will get it down in no time.  If you would like to meet me, please fill out an application which can be found at www.bcaaofnj.org.

Submit Application

Submitting an application is always our first step - it's free to apply! bcaaofnj.org

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the applicant filling out an adoption application for the pet they are interested in. When they have completed and submitted the application, the screening process is started, which consists of a vet check, phone interview and home visit. Once all the steps are completed, we determine, by our findings, if they are approved, and if so, then they are allowed to adopt from our organization. The final step is they must complete the adoption contract, along with the donation for the animal, which goes into our medical fund to defray their medical costs. All of our animals are spayed and neutered, up to date on all their shots, including rabies, they are parasite free and on heartworm preventative.
