Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Gala is my littlest, bitty but playful girl, Loves attention and gives instant, big purrs. She’s low-medium energy so far when she winds up to play, maybe a little more as she grows.
She loves attention before, during or after playtime but has also learned to enjoy laptime. She’s pretty good on being picked up, carried and lately she’s parroting on your shoulder, wanting to be close. When she’s worn out after playing, she’ll squeak to be picked up or hug your calf or to sit with you on the couch (she’s not yet big enough for a lap jump).
She’s a big explorer especially when it comes to cabinets, no cabinet goes uninspected on her watch. During the day she plays with toys- balls, mice, etc., but mostly chases/wrestles in the tub with her two sisters, Fuji (A915111) and Honeycrisp (A915114). She’s very gentle at hand-wrestling when you play with her on the couch and if you aren`t in the mood for play, she can be distracted with pets and skritches. She tales most of her naps on the couch, but also sometimes crashes out up in the cat tree or by my feet under the desk. She has a tiny squeak-peep, meow and she’s a bit of a talker, answering your questions… or saying hi… and at meal times with a big, loud squeak. At night, when I`m reading, she settles on my chest to be in front of my tablet, ready for pets or close by. She’ll sleep against your hip, back or side through the night like a magnet.
She`s perfect with the litter box and good at letting you trim her front nails most anytime (and her backs when she’s snoozy). She might be a bit shy with new people, but warms up very quickly with pets and toys. She is well adjusted and should be fine with children if given time to get used to their energy. She once met a small, energetic dog and after watching from across the room decided she was not a fan, but with a slow introduction to a cat friendly dog she would probably be fine. She is cat friendly, gets along great with my cat and her sisters, so if you have a cat at home or would like to adopt two (or three) kittens, it should be an easy transition. She is independent enough that with lots of toys and attention she could easily transition into being an only cat.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
