Say hello to Miss Cashew! This stunning 2 year old Hound Mix came from an indoor hoarding situation of around 72 other hounds. At this time, Cashew is still working on his house training and crate training, but does really well on a leash! Cashew is still new to HSEC but she does seem to have a very sociable and people loving personality. So far, Cashew has done well with meeting new people, and she can be a little bit of a big baby, so don`t be shocked if she dramatizes things for a pet and snuggle!
She recently went into a weekend foster and this is what they had to say about Cashew `Cashew was a wonderful houseguest this past weekend! She is super snuggly! She will climb into your lap if you’re sitting or snuggle right up to you if you’re lying down. Anyone who is especially looking for a dog who is cuddly & sweet would definitely find what they’re looking for with Cashew! She has a very gentle demeanor, so in addition to being snuggly & lovable, I think she would be good with children. She played well with my two dogs and snuggled up with them when sleeping. She rides very well in the car and also walks well on a leash, even when walking more than one dog, which is good because walking multiple dogs can sometimes be hard but it was easy with Cashew. She is still working on potty training but exhibited signs that she is catching on to it. She does sometimes put her paws up on the countertops and the table but is very easy to re-direct when asked to get down. She listens. I believe she would learn the rules quickly with consistency. She also likes to “rearrange” things, like shoes, for example. In foster she enjoyed carrying different items into other rooms but did not chew on them or destroy any of our things. She just liked “rearranging” them & finding new places to put them, haha! Overall, she was an excellent guest in our home—sweet, gentle, and loving with both humans and other animals! I believe anyone would be truly lucky to have Cashew for a pet! She is a sweetheart, for sure!`
Our adoption fee for dogs is $200.00. This fee includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccines, microchip, dewormer, and consistent heartworm and flea prevention before leaving the facility.

More about this rescue
The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina's mission is to serve as a safe haven for homeless and neglected pets and act as a resource to the community. By educating the public about issues pertaining to animals, we feel that we can work towards the elimination of over breeding of dogs and cats and teach owners to be responsible pet owners. At the same time, we hope to facilitate adoption of pets to good homes so that we can allow more unwanted animals to find a temporary home with us.
