Take the Pet Home
Meet Max! He is perfect!
This little fella came to us so scared after having been found on an abandoned property. He is now in a foster home and is just blossoming! He is 6 months old and just 14 lbs. of absolute cuteness. We are not sure his breed other than FANTASTIC. But he looks to have chihuahua and/or spaniel or such. Small boy who is soo cute!
Max is awesome, from his evening zoomies to showing off how great he is about going potty, such a big boy now! He loves his walks and hikes and will enjoy them heartily. Max is curious about people who pass on the trail as he politely moves to the side (walks after them, sniffing) on. On one hike he seemed interested in meeting a super sweet and docile retriever but then he got heavily interested in the ferns. He LOVES ferns! He makes us laugh!
We’ve visited a standoffish cat a few times, and he wanted to be friends but was also too afraid to try to win her over. Not yet interested in meeting other dogs, but wasn’t at all phased when we saw a coyote on a hike (uh oh!). He is slowly learning not to pull as much on a walk and we have easy tips for you!
He loves being home — would cuddle or chill nearby 24/7 if he could. If you have a lap and lots of love, he says he's in!
Total champ in his crate! He whimpers but quickly settles down whether overnight or a few hours. Often prefers to snooze in his crate. He didn’t love the very cushy dog-bed he was offered (too fuzzy? too new?). Funny boy.
Learning to love the car! Having a car ride where I was seated next to him (in the back) really helped him, as did going to a place where he got lots of treats. Warms up to friends in no time! Not yet convinced other people are worth meeting but in time.... For crowded areas, he’s a brave sweetheart if he’s in a sling.
Loves chewing! Minimal attempts to chew socks or shoes, and is happy to be redirected to his toys. Not motivated by treats if he’s nervous, but peanut butter wins every time. Does great at bath time, and has no issues with his paws or nails or ears or face being handled.
Commands we’ve been working on :
> Come
> Good boy
> Heel
> Inside
> Outside (or Potty) vs Walk vs Car
> Paws - for wiping paws when returning from a walk (nice for our rainy climate).
> Sit
> Thank You / Enough - He sometimes barks, but not frequently.
Max is vaccinated, neutered and chipped. His adoption fee is $525.
We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. Thank you for stepping up to save a life!
To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon!
