Kahlua Have you ever tried this delicious drink that humans enjoy? I guess I was named after Kahlua and Cream. I am a petite, 3-year-old Calico girl, so it makes sense. My owner found me as a stray kitten, and I fell in love with her. As a matter of fact, she was the most important person in my world, and I preferred her to anybody else. When visitors came to the house, I would hide. If a pushy visitor tried to interact with me, I'd hiss or swat to show my disapproval. And if they ignored my warnings, I had no alternative but to try to bite them. Good grief! I don't speak human, so how else can I communicate my message? But get this. I didn't know the interviewer lady (IL) before today, but she was very polite and gentle with me. She whispered to me, I sniffed her hand, and because she went slowly, I licked her hand! I lay on my side and let her pet me all over. I was purring and very openly affectionate. A gentle approach is the key to my heart. Now, I confess, when it comes to a veterinarian examining me or a pushy stranger, I will loudly object! I will require an adult-only home to be sure everyone understands my behavior requirements. I will use the "Kahlua Method" to make myself clear. If you are up for a sweetheart of a cat with a bit of attitude, then why not come to HSHC and meet me? I'll be waiting. 10-24-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
