My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chip is a domestic shorthair brown male who is 3 months old. He is brother to Dale, Minnie and Clarabelle.

Meet Chip, a kitten with a heart full of joy and a spirit bursting with life. His playful nature is contagious, filling any room with laughter and happiness. Chip is a goofball, often found tumbling around with his toys, making everyone around him chuckle. Despite his playful side, Chip is also incredibly independent, happily exploring his surroundings or quietly playing on his own. He is a friendly feline, always ready to greet anyone with a soft purr and a gentle nudge. His mellow demeanor makes him a wonderful companion, bringing a calming presence to any home. His sweet, gentle nature makes him the perfect addition to any family. Adopt Chip and let his infectious joy, playful antics, and soothing presence fill your home with love and laughter.

This kittens mom tested positive for FIV and negative for FeLV.
DRK tests adoptable cats before putting them up for adoption. However, in order to achieve an accurate test result the antibodies required to trigger a positive test need between 8 weeks and 6 months to develop. As a result, the testing of kittens is rarely accurate. Due to this, kittens are not tested before 6 months. DRK conducts testing on the mother in order to provide an educated understanding of the risk of diagnosis for all potential adopters.
If the mother cat is positive for FIV, very rarely will an infected mother pass FIV to her kittens in utero or during birth. However, the risk does exist. The risk of transmission is higher depending on when the mother contracted the virus, and the circumstances of the birth. Unfortunately, this is nearly impossible to predict.

Adopters need to sign a FIV+ education release form prior to adoption acknowledging the kitten needs to be FIV tested in the future after adoption and they assume all risks associated with a potentially FIV + cat.

Chip is neutered, microchipped and is vaccinated for FVRCP. He will need his rabies vaccine when age appropriate which will be the responsibility of his adopters. His adoption fee is $300, $550 as a pair with his sibling, or $795 as a trio. To apply, please submit an adoption application.

Additional adoption info

Most of our cats live in foster homes. Some are available to meet at satellite locations such as Pet Valu and Ren's Depot. A few foster homes are available to meet and greets at their home, or we also do meet and greets at request at our shelter prior to adoption. Most of these results in same day adoptions, and only take place after an adoption interview.
