George – White Male X, 1 year old, 95lbs
We name a lot of dogs at LRRF as they come into our rescue and while we don’t always get the name right to match their personality every time, this time we sure did! Meet George! This one-year-old, 95-pound gentleman may not look like Curious George, but as we learned more about him, we fell more in love with the name and the dog! George is inquisitive, kind-hearted, and gentle. He has won over everyone in his foster home with his laid-back spirit and zest for life, but it is time for him to find his forever family so his fosters can continue to help more dogs in need.
When we were notified by our shelter partners about this giant ‘maybe Labrador’, poor George was not in the best shape. He had a nylon rope embedded around his neck, and he was lethargic, dehydrated, not eating, and urinating blood. At this point we really didn’t care a whole lot that he was probably a Pyrenees mix, we just knew this dog needed help. George was in such bad shape, we had to carry him out of the shelter, as he did not have the strength or will to walk. We rushed him to our vet, and besides having a urinary tract infection he also had anaplasmosis (a blood infection caused by a tick bite). Luckily, these ailments are treatable with medications and sweet George is now 100% healthy and ready to find his family!
Just like in the television show, our Curious George spends his days exploring his world and learning about new things! What is that funny whirring sound? A dishwasher, wow! Let me smell it and investigate (maybe lick a dirty dish or two while I’m at it!). It appears the indoor life is new to George, so all the daily household noises and sights are new to him. He approaches these new situations with such grace and joyful curiosity, it is such fun to watch his world expand before his very eyes! George is such a charmer – everyone he meets falls in love with him – dogs of all sizes, young children, older children, teens, grown-ups, even cats and chickens! He is a friend to all. George is also fully house-trained and has excellent leash manners. He is not crate-trained, but his house manners are so nice, that you really don’t need to crate him. George will make an excellent addition to an active family who enjoys exploring their world too! Familiarity with the Great Pyrenees is helpful. If you have room in your heart and home to add this darling boy to your family, please fill out an adoption application at www.labrescuefresno.org and tell us you want to learn more about George!
