My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Laverne! Abandoned with her sister in an apartment, we don't know how long these two were left alone, but they came to us in terrible shape-covered in infected sores and terrified of the world.

While Laverne's sister quickly warmed up and found her forever home, Laverne took a bit more time to rebuild her trust in people. Now, this pint-sized 60-pound queen has blossomed into a volunteer favorite and a total mush!

Laverne's journey hasn't erased all her fears. She can still be a little nervous with strangers, but her sweet and loving nature shines once she feels safe. To help her thrive, we're seeking an adult-only home where she can enjoy the love and stability she deserves.

If you're ready to welcome a resilient and loyal companion into your life, come meet Laverne in Tinton Falls, NJ. She's ready to be someone's everything. ❤️

More about this shelter

The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.

For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused, or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.

The Society is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.

Please visit our website AHSCares.org for additional information.
