My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE ON LARUE!!!!

A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions. As we continue to assess the individual needs of these deserving animals, additional information coming soon, but please take a minute to meet Ms Larue... We are happy to say she is in a foster home with a comfy bed, a warm onsie, and a family who is offering her any love she will take. They say:

"This is Larue who is one of the rural County hoarding dogs. Larue is an older gal (thought to be a Golden/Lab/Great Pyr mix) who lived in horrendous conditions and suffered years of neglect. She has had several litters of puppies and while she is super sweet, sadly she is super scared of the world. She is going to take lots of work and patience to get her to a place that she is comfortable but, we are going to give it a shot! (AND SO HAPPY WE HAVE!) Here is a New update 10-28... Larue has really blossomed over the last almost two weeks in our home. She is dog friendly, house trained, crate trained, and a pretty good pup overall!

We have been working on leash training which has gone well for the most part. Some days she still has little freak outs when the leash is on but overall I’m very proud of her progress. All this girl wants is to be with a family and I hope she gets one of her own soon.

Given the environment she came from I couldn’t be more proud of this girl and the resilience she has shown. She is learning to be a dog and it’s awesome to watch. If you have been thinking about fostering, I hope Larue will give some insight to what can be possible for these pups! They need a lot but are SOO deserving!

Larue is also already spayed, microchipped, and UTD on everything so if you are looking for a new family member she’s ready to go...

It was discovered at her vet appointment she had a tumor on her spleen so she is also recovering from spleen removal, spay, and a mammary tumor removal. GRRAND needs donations to care for these dogs as almost all of the dogs that have been taken from that property are sick, so please donate to help them if you can!"

Larue will be looking for a home that has a secure above ground fenced yard, as she has never been socialized and is considered a flight risk. Her new family will need to be committed to having the time to work with her through her fears and insecurities, as this will take time.

Please check back for more info on Larue as her foster family will keep us updated but if you would like to meet this sweet girl, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org!

More about this rescue

Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months, this “wet behind the ears” group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND). The rest, as they say, is history!
