Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Cinnamon is a trained medical alert/service dog.
She is a 13-yr-old chihuahua, very healthy (small dogs can live up to 20+ years). She was acquired (at age 6 weeks) and trained through a hospital in Texas for a man who suffered from diabetes, Parkinson's, and heart disease. She has been a service dog to this gentleman her entire life. Cinnamon alerted him when his blood sugar was low, she alerted him when he needed to take his meds, and she was also trained to alert if his breathing or heartbeat became erratic or ceased. When he recently went into cardiac arrest at home, she jumped on his chest and kept him breathing until the paramedics arrived, and he made it safely to the hospital.
Unfortunately, he later passed away in the hospital. There is no family available to take her, which is why she was surrendered to us.
We are waiving the adoption fee for Cinnamon. We are much more interested in finding the perfect match for her. This sweetheart deserves a forever home where she will be able to shower her owner with love.
Cinnamon is generally indifferent to other dogs, and has not been tested around cats, but my guess is that she would be indifferent to them as well. She is totally focused on her human and is very affectionate. She will want to sleep with you in the big bed; as a service dog, that's where she's always slept. She is housetrained to use a dog door.
Cinnamon is extremely sweet and loving. I am certain there is someone out there who could benefit from a health service dog, but even if you're just looking for the sweetest and most loving little companion ever, she fits the bill for that too!
If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting Cinnamon, the first step is to submit an adoption application. Please go to our website www.k9bestfriendsforever.com and click on "Adopt" which will take you to our online application form.
