Scout IV is a very loving and affectionate 16 month old Pit Bull / Great Dane mix weighing in at 70 pounds and still growing. His shortened tail gives him a distinguished appearance. A 'happy tail' injury at 7 months old has healed wonderfully and hasn't slowed him down one bit! Scout was rescued with his litter as puppies. The last of his litter adopted, when we found him we were captivated by his expressive eyes and wide smile. He had surgery at 4 months old to tack his ears to prevent development of hematomas between the layers of his cartilage and skin if he has an ear infection (something pit bulls are known to develop when shaking their heads vigorously during infection). We helped Scout ensure early on that he would be more comfortable and stay healthier throughout his life in this regard.
Scout continues to grow strong and will never know how big he is, as his favorite place to be is relaxed and lounging fully on one of his humans. He truly loves his people with all of himself and will be loyal and true to your family! He is good with other dogs and children and has loved ours (ages 5 and 7) well. His need for attention and affection would best be met by a family who can solely focus on him to begin with and then over time add other dogs as desired. His size and enjoyment of basking in the sunshine would be best suited in a home with a yard large enough for him to play. Scout loves to gather his human's belongings; sometimes to present back to them as a gift and sometimes to use as a comforting chew toy. He is still learning and will be eager to please his family.
His Great Dane legs gave him access to countertops, but his counter-surfing habit has largely been broken. He is crate trained, housebroken, and enjoys walks with his humans. Leash training will need to be a continued effort, but he does not fight you. Scout truly enjoys every moment of time you give him and will flourish under your love, play, care and attention. As an example, even when it is time to go outside for his potty break, he MUST share a few moments of affection before he is willing to leave your presence. It is a unique and lovable quirk that shows Scout's deep devotion, love, and need for affection. We adore Scout. It is heartbreaking for our family to need to find a new home for him, but we believe that with our older dog (only by 12 months) who is decidedly the alpha, it is best for Scout. He is coming into his own and has discovered he wants to be the leader of the pack. We want what is best for Scout. We will miss his affection, his smile, his snuggles and his excited full body wiggles on a daily basis. We look forward to knowing he is with a family who will love him as much as we do.
He is loving, active, playful, affectionate, and loyal!
