My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lays! A 10-month-old super-smart and compassionate pup ready to find her forever home! Lay's has a remarkable knack for problem-solving-she once found a lost leash on a trail hike-and her emotional intelligence is just as impressive. She's incredibly empathetic, often stepping in to gently separate dogs when play gets too rough, showing an awareness far beyond her years.

Lays has impeccable house manners, never having accidents and earning the trust to roam freely at night. She curls up on her bed and stays out of trouble, proving what a well-behaved housemate she is. Despite a rough start-being part of a mass evacuation before Hurricane Helene-Lays has shown amazing resilience, adapting to new situations with hope and strength.

She's still building her confidence with new people, but she loves going on walks and car rides. Lays would thrive in a calm, patient home with someone who understands shy dogs and can offer her steady, loving guidance. She'd also benefit from having a dog friend to help show her the ropes. This sweet, gentle girl is ready to blossom into a loyal and loving companion, eager to explore the world by your side. Could you be the one to give Lays the love she deserves?

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of North Central Florida was created in 2018 when the leadership of the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue decided to permanently join forces. By becoming the Humane Society of North Central Florida, our organizations were able to effectively streamline services for pets and pet owners, eliminate any duplication of services, maximize our community’s resources, and improve the life-saving abilities of the entire region.

Our founding organizations have been dedicated to serving pets in Alachua County for more than 40 years. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. The animals in our facility are transferred from open-intake and/or managed admission municipal shelters across North Central Florida. The Humane Society of North Central Florida is an independent, local 501(c)(3) organization. As such, we do not receive funding from federal agencies, nor are we affiliated with any other state or national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
