My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kiwi!

Kiwi is a sweet and playful 7-month-old mixed-breed brindle pup, weighing in at 65 pounds. She may fill out just a little more, but she’s close to fully grown. Kiwi came to Safe Haven after overcoming Parvo, and now she’s 100% healthy and full of energy! You’d never know she had a rough start to life. She’s spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and ready to find her forever family.

Kiwi has been fostered in a home with older children and other dogs, and she fit right in. She even got to attend training at Bark Avenue Daycamp, where she blossomed in her obedience and socialization with other dogs. She loves playing with her canine friends and does great in settings where she has space to explore and unwind. Kiwi has learned to take cues from other dogs, stopping any overly-energetic behavior when the other dogs need space.

Kiwi’s training has come along nicely! To keep her mind stimulated, her trainer starts each session with a fun scent activity or agility exercise, which helps her settle into training. Kiwi loves puzzles, scent boxes, and sniffing for treats, which also stimulates her curious mind.

She is crate-trained and sleeps peacefully through the night without a peep. With her bright personality, Kiwi is sure to bring joy and laughter to her forever home. Plus, thanks to her training at Daycamp, you’ll have access to unlimited phone, email, and text support for any training questions you have throughout her life.

Kiwi is looking for a loving, active family who can continue building her training skills and give her plenty of opportunities to play and explore. Could that be you?

Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping.

We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process.

Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details.

Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
