My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Ramsey!  I'm a mighty handsome 7 1/2 year old purebred orange/white brittany weighing about 42 pounds. I recently found myself in need of a new home when my mom passed away. She's had me my whole life, so things look a little bit different now. Can you help me find my way to my new home?

I've got a heart full of sweetness and a mind that's as sharp as a tack. I've got energy to burn and a playful spirit that can't be tamed. I'm a bit of a lone wolf and have always been an only dog. I don't mind companionship, but usually just want to do my own thing. I do make sure to check in with my humans and like to sit with them on the couch.  The great outdoors is my playground and water? Oh boy, do I love a good splash!  I even like baths! I'm also pretty keen on anything that moves. I'm told I have a great looking point.  I'm also told I have some quirks, but who doesn't right?  You see, my mom used a laser pointer to play with me when I was young, so now I hunt and chase shadows and moving light.  I'm a real smart cookie and know sit, stay, back, shake/paw, leave it and no. I'm looking for someone who can keep up with my energetic lifestyle, who has a physically fenced yard that I can run and play in, and a pool or watering hole of some kind would be a bonus!  My favorite place to be is outside and I love chewing on sticks and chasing after a ball. I'm also good with kids.

I'm housebroken and crate trained, neutered and up to date on vaccinations. I'm overall a well-mannered gentleman.  If you're looking for a loyal, intelligent and independent companion, please consider opening your heart and home to me! You can submit an adoption application to www.nbran.org and mention my name! I am currently located in eastern NC and can be transported up to 1400 miles, with the adopter driving the last 100 or so miles.  My adoption fee is $350 to help cover my vetting and help NBRAN continue to rescue pups like me!  For any further questions, please email jessica@thesouthernway.com

More about this rescue

National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network (NBRAN), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a network of caring and dedicated volunteers who have a deep passion for dog rescue and specifically the homeless Brittany, affectionately called a "Britt."

There are currently about 60 dogs available for adoption. You can view all the dogs or search by specific attributes on our "Available for Adoption" page.

Adopting a pet pays you back ten fold. If you are not able to adopt, volunteers are always needed to help transport or foster a pet. You may also choose to donate to this effort on our Donate Now page. All donations are tax deductible!

Once called "the Brittany Spaniel," the AKC has officially changed their breed name to "the American Brittany." A Brittany retains a puppy-like quality in their personality and are gentle, clownish, active dogs. They are great family dogs.

The number of dogs available for adoption varies from month to month. Some of our available Britts or Britts in need are shown below.
