My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pellets: 1/4 cup Oxbow Essentials Adult Rabbit Food (AM)
Hay: Unlimited mixed hay (all day)
Salad: 1x a day 1 cup romaine lettuce ONLY (PM)

Meet Bowie, a sweet bun looking for a new home with his bonded mate, Pippa. Bowie came to SDHRS in September 2024 after being lovingly cared for by his previous owner, who recently passed away. He can be a bit shy at first, preferring to explore on his own terms, but he's starting to open up. Bowie has a playful side, often carrying his favorite hay cubes out of the litter box to snack on in different spots. He's learning to trust people more and will now take treats from your hand, though he still likes to keep a little distance until he feels comfortable. If you're ready to welcome Bowie and Pippa into your heart and home, they would make wonderful companions!

Note: Bowie is bonded to Pippa, and they must be adopted together as a pair.

Neutered: 6-17-2022

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious and deadly disease caused by a calicivirus that affects both wild and domestic rabbits. It is not contagious to people or other animals. For the first time, the virus is causing deaths in rabbits and hares native to North America and is spreading rapidly. UPDATE: In May 2021, California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has confirmed new cases of RHDV in rabbits in Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura County. In addition to detection of RHDV2 in wild cottontail rabbits and jackrabbits, RHDV2 has been confirmed in domestic rabbits on 50 premises, including a detection in a feral domestic rabbit. More about this rescue

We are a volunteer-driven organization working in San Diego County for nearly 25 years. We want to ensure that rabbits are not adopted out unaltered, that they find good homes where they will be cherished as indoor family companions, and that we educate our community on the responsible care of indoor rabbit companions.
