My story

Poppy, 10+ yrs. old, 10lbs, Male, Chihuahua mix, established potty habits, crate trained

Poppy came into foster care a timid and underweight little guy. Throughout his stay he has gained both weight and confidence. Although he is still unsure sometimes he regularly seeks out affection and continues to grow each day. Poppy does suffer from seizures, but his condition has improved greatly with medication and are now a very rare occassion. Our best guess is they are at least partially stress induced. Poppy does well enough with other dogs, but due to his age doesn't engage with them, cats are unknown and due to his size small children should be avoided. Poppy lives for food, tv watching and a good fluffy bed. He's a low maintenance lilttle guy who would do well in most homes.

All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative (age 7 months and older) and microchipped. We do not ship or transport. A dog's adoption donation is $100. There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards.

All of our dogs, cats, rabbits & ferrets are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Small animals are usually not altered. We have adoption applications, a short interview process, and an adoption fee for each animal. All animals (except rabbits & small animals) are up to date on all shots.

We hold adoption events on Saturdays at Petsmart in Mishawaka from 11-3. We also hold other events throughout the year. Company Overview
Heartland Small Animal Rescue Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving South Bend, IN and surrounding towns by taking in homeless pets and adopting them out into loving homes. We also work closely with local shelters to reduce euthanasia rates by pulling animals and putting them in our program.
