My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

❤ Patsy is currently in foster care and not at the shelter, if you would like to visit her, please email adoptions@kitsap-humane.org

Her foster home had this to say about her: "Patsy is a confident and intelligent dog. She's not at all shy when faced with new people and new situations, and she quickly figured out the routine in her foster home. She is high-energy and is a fun dog to walk, trotting along with her graceful and springy strides while keeping her nose to the ground, doing her job as a hound by sniffing at every scent. In my home she spends time with my dog who is about her same size but older. Right from the start, they were peaceful companions. Patsy is fun to walk, trotting along energetically with her nose to the ground, and in most situations not pulling much. Patsy lifts her head, wags her tail, and pulls toward every person or dog we see while out walking. With people her demeanor seems friendly and curious. (With dogs, not sure of her intentions; I'm fully occupied hanging on to the leash during the sudden strong pull.) In my home, Patsy is confined to a crate when I'm away from the house. She willingly walks into the crate if offered a treat inside. The crate is also where she gets her meals. I've only needed to leave her in the crate while I'm away from the house a few times. The first time I left the house with her in the crate, she seemed a bit nervous when I got home. Now that she is more accustomed to me and the house, she seems pretty calm about me leaving and returning. Patsy is completely house trained. Patsy does recognize basic commands "sit" and "come here". (She doesn't respond to them 100% however if there are distractions.) Patsy doesn't chew on or damage anything in the house. She sleeps calmly through the night and doesn't need to be confined to a crate at night. When Patsy is inside the house or yard, she will bark at the sight or sound of things moving outside. Cats passing, dogs barking, delivery trucks turning into the driveway, etc. I think she barked the most in her first few hours in my house, when everything was unfamiliar. In my home I was able to reduce her barking by closing the door to deny her access a room where the window had the best view of the neighbors' cats. Patsy's ideal home would be one that provides constructive outlets for her energy and intelligence. She'd enjoy lots of interaction with people and dogs. People who would take her on long walks or hikes would be great".

Patsy would do best in a home with:
-No small animals/small livestock
-6' and taller fence

More about this shelter

Kitsap Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal shelter. We rescue and rehome over 6000 pets each year. Every dog or cat leaves our shelter spayed or neutered and with complete vaccines and a microchip. We have been caring for animals in need since 1908 and envision a time when all adoptable pets have loving homes.

We are extremely proud of our exceptionally high “lives saved” rate of over 96%. Through our active adoption, behavior, foster, transfer, and veterinary programs, we are able to rehome every adoptable animal that enters our facility. No animal is ever euthanized for lack of space.

In addition to caring for and adopting animals, we also provide spay/neuter services to low income residents of Kitsap County, and provide Animal Rescue and Enforcement services to our surrounding municipalities.
