My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spunky little Otis has finally healed from his surgery and is ready to find his forever home! For those who did not see his initial post, Otis came to RCHS with a fracture of his left front leg that he sustained while playing with the other dog in the home. This little guy is a snuggler – he loves to cuddle during the night and will insist on sleeping with you. He is tiny at only 6lb, but don’t worry - he aims to keep you safe at all times, and will gladly use his ferocious bark to protect you if he detects danger.

Otis absolutely LOVES playing with other animals and has not met a cat or dog he doesn’t like. However, he is not good at detecting cues from other animals that they do not wish to play, or they want to stop playing. Unfortunately, his play-antics are sometimes annoying to other animals. His rough-n-tumble play behavior has gotten him in to trouble before, and was the reason for his fracture and ultimate surrender to RCHS. Therefore, although it is essential that Otis has playmates, the animals in his future home must be tolerant and of similar size.

Otis is a loyal little guy who suffers from separation anxiety. He has attempted very adamantly to launch himself from the arms of another person to get to his foster mom – an action that could result in significant injury. His anxiety is not manifested as destructive, but he barks loudly and frequently while crated so would not be suited for an apartment or an attached home. The presence of other pets in the home seems to help with his anxiety, but this will likely be a long term condition, even with behavior modification efforts. This adorable creature simply just loves SOOOOO much!

Otis is working on potty training. He knows what to do when he goes outside, but does not yet know how to ask to be let outside. He has trouble staying quiet when a potential friend passes by, but he is very food-motivated, so with some training this behavior can be improved.

Otis’s ideal home would be with an individual or family with lots of time to dedicate to training and possibly someone that works from home. It is important that he have other animals of similar size to engage with who also love to play.
