We adopted through Humane Society. She was 7 in September. Her behavior issues are anxiety/territory related. She was open to human interaction; hid if overwhelmed. During Covid lockdown our family stayed home except adults going to work (educator, RN in the family); we did not have visitors for 2 years. After re-introducing visitors, she was very anxious. We tried pheromones & calming treats but do not have a room just for her. The vet (who she loves and behaves well with) offered gabapentin, which she vomited in all forms. We then tried xanax as a topical rubbed into her ears for a few weeks but did not see a behavior change and she disliked us petting/touching her as she felt like we were applying cream when we approached. Our biggest difficulty is our college-aged child who she seems to not recognize/ thinks of as a stranger. When he was home for Christmas in 2023 she developed a UTI and bit him. Even after cured, she was aggressive with him. Her behavior toward him is our problem.
