Meet Avi, a 3-year-old chocolate Labrador Retriever/Cattle Dog mix who has proven to be not just a great mother to the Tree Trunk Litter, a group of 9 puppies rescued from the trunk of a tree, but a fantastic companion. She raised her pups and is now ready for her own forever home where she can soak up all the love she deserves.

Avi is fully house trained, affectionate, and great with kids. She enjoys the company of other dogs and has formed a strong bond with her foster's Golden Retriever-they're the best of friends! Avi loves to run, play ball, and enjoys a good tummy rub, making her the perfect fit for an active household. After a fun day of play, she's happy to settle in for some snuggle time.

She's the kind of dog who loves being close to her person and will greet you with her tail wagging and her heart full. Avi is ready to share her love and loyalty with her new forever family.

Adopt-A-Pet Events in the Kansas City Area

Cat adoptions are held at the PetSmart at 115th and Metcalf in Overland Park KS every Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00. Cats available for adoption every day at PetSmart in-store cage area.

Dog adoptions are held at the PetSmart in Olathe KS at 119th and Strang Line, every Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00.

Dog adoptions are held at the PetSmart in Lee's Summit MO at 920 NE Sam Walton Lane, also every Saturday from 12:00 and 3:00.

The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs).
