My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Winnie belongs to our Tree Trunk Litter, discovered in a tree trunk where she, her eight siblings, and their mother Avi, a Lab mix, had settled. Her birthdate is estimated to be around August 23, 2024. Winnie shows characteristics that suggest hound ancestry, with perhaps a hint of pointer, though her exact mix is uncertain. She is a well-behaved puppy who does not mouth or jump on people. Her playful yet gentle nature makes her a perfect pet for families with children. She loves attention and is fond of cuddling in laps or lying at your feet. Her foster caregiver reports that she is good at kenneling, maintains a clean kennel without any accidents, travels comfortably in a car, and is eager to learn.

More about this rescue

The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs). Visit our website to learn more about us at heartofamericahs.org.
