Im playful, curious, and love a good adventure! I feel my best when I can lie down with someone, get some pets, and hear that Im a good boy. I love playing with my toys while my people are close by, and that really soothes me. When it comes to toys, I prefer things with a bit of give, like rubber toys or rawhide. At night, I sleep right next to the bed on a mattress pad, and once I settle in, Im out for the whole night no accidents or needing to go outside! In the morning, as soon as I wake up, I head outside to do my business, and Ive been really good about house training with some gentle guidance. Im pretty smart and pick up on routines quickly. Whether its going for long walks, riding in the car, or even hopping on a boat, Im always up for some fun. Im easy to redirect on a leash and dont react to distractions like squirrels or cars, except when I get excited and want to show some love to another dog or person. With a little more training and routine, Ill be an amazing addition to any family. My foster guardian says: Zuma has a very loving and trusting nature, plus he is very affectionate and incredibly smart. Likes: Car rides, long walks, fetch, riding on a boat! At anytime during the process you can meet our dogs at our adoption event. We do not have a facility and are 100% foster based.

A quick home visit to make sure the dog you've chosen is a good fit and answer any other questions you might have.

Approve Application
Once approved and the adoption fee is paid, you can take your new family member home!

Adoption area is Washington, D.C area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland. All adoptions require a completed adoption application. Our adoption coordinators will contact you soon after reviewing the application. Our adoption fee is $450 to help off set the costs of rescuing dogs in need. All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, wormed (although a 2nd worming may be required), started on heart worm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped.
Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue. We want our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be!
