My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

APPLICATION LINK: https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/
We must have an application to move forward.

Sugar is about 1 yr old (DOB 9/1/23), 21” tall at the shoulder and 33’ long from base of tail to her nose. She now weighs 51#. Her fur is soft and shiny, We think she is a Lab mix…according to the vet.

She is a dog needing special care because she is 100% deaf. She gets along great in life depending on other dogs to know when they’re being called for dinner, etc. She is bright and happy and she has been taught a few hand signals for commands. The most difficult part is that you can’t depend on sound to get her attention.

Here are the foster’s comments about her personality and behavior:

This beautiful young female, Sugar, was a stray who showed up on my acreage in the fall of 2024. Over the course of several days, I could see that she was trying to eat the bark off my trees and was starving. Over the next few days, I put out a bowl of kibble every day. Sugar was leery of my presence and I was leery of hers but I was determined to help her, to rescue her and to find her the loving forever-home I knew she deserved. As it turns out, both of our sense of hesitation was completely unfounded and, from the first day after I contained her in my fenced yard, Sugar, my five other dogs, my husband, and I became the best of friends.

Personality/Behavior:
* Very gentle, very loving, very peaceful, wants to please her human
* Very intelligent, intuitive, interactive and responsive
* Responds well to men and women equally
* Got along very well with my five other dogs from the first day I found her (male Siberian Husky, male Australian Shepherd, male Pekingese, female Rat Terrier and female French Bulldog)
* Intuitively knows which of my dogs she can play with and to what degree
* Submissive and respectful to other dogs and people; responds to boundaries
* So far, Sugar has been an outdoor dog but I believe she will make a fabulous indoor/outdoor companion in the future
* Sugar only barks when she sees a stranger, a deer coming too close the fence, etc. Sugar barks for "good reasons"; she does not bark just to bark. Because she is deaf, Sugar, generally, barks at things she can see and not hear. For example, Sugar does not bark when other dogs bark, when ambulances drive by, fireworks, etc.
* Learned how to sit with me using hand signals and treats
* I do not know if Sugar is potty-trained because I have not let her in the house. Sugar has never gone to the bathroom in her very large partition nor on the concrete patio. Sugar has only ever gone to the bathroom in the far side of the very large fenced grassy area along with my dogs. I suspect Sugar will learn to be potty-trained very quickly if she is not potty-trained already.
* Has never jumped up on people
* Very well behaved, smart and has a lot of potential for further training

Best Suited For:
* Active family who can take Sugar on regular walks
* Someone with patience who can work with a deaf dog and who is able to train Sugar to be able to live inside
* Sugar is not hyperactive nor does she have the personality traits of a working breed (eg. Siberian Husky). Sugar will thrive in an environment with average activity.

HOW ABOUT FOSTERING! If you are not in the position to afford a puppy/dog but still want to be an important factor in dog rescue, we recommend fostering. Fostering ensures you incur no vet bills and no boarding fees while saving a life and enjoying the love of a canine companion. We are always in need of good fosters. You can sign up to foster at this link: https://shaynesrescue.com/foster-application/

This is a post on behalf of Pet Central SATX Rescue, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, where there are over 350,000 homeless pets. We have hundreds of puppies/dogs available so there really is no need to apply anywhere else. Also, one application is good even if you are interested in several different dogs...one application no matter which one you choose.

Thank you for choosing to adopt a rescue pup/dog. We firmly believe there is NO breed other than "rescue" for all species. Thank you for being part of the village it takes to save these precious lives.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

We are doing adoption events at Pet Works Olympia. Come see us Sunday, November 10th at 1130 am. Generally we are there the 2nd Sunday of the month at 1130-130.

We set up the dogs in the groomers station at the Pet Works in downtown Olympia.

If you apply in advance with enough time for us to approve your application you can leave with your pup! If you cannot attend, pls apply and then you can visit the dog with the foster so you still get to meet even if you can't make it to an event.
We have a few volunteers and also some dogs aren't fostered in Olympia, WA so not all of our dogs/pups will be at every event. A dog might be fostered in Seattle or Bothell, WA and those do not typically come to the adoption event. So please apply:

You can use that link to apply. Thank you.

Our email is

We foster puppies and dogs. Meets are after we approve the application and then you can adopt. Puppies/dogs are either in foster in W WA or available to pre adopt. Next adoption event is Pet Works Olympia, WA Sunday, 1/10/2024. We are currently having adoption events monthly typically on the second Sunday of each month at Pet Works 407 4th Ave. E, Olympia, WA at 1130am.. Almost always the event is the 2nd Sunday of the month. Any issues please email us at shaynesrescue@gmail.com.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Yes we always have puppies available! ADOPTION EVENTS; Pet Works Olympia (downtown) 407 4th Ave. Olympia, WA. 1130 am till at least 1 pm. Often we are there till 130pm . Our pups/dogs are saved from TX where a typical TX shelter pts 1000 puppies/dogs/month. :( Yes we wish we that were not true:( To ADOPT, PLEASE do apply in advance. You can leave an event with a pup/dog to take home IF we have approved your application. However, typically, we can't approve an application during an event). Hence, BEST to apply in advance. Any pups/dogs in foster in Western WA you apply, then we approve you to adopt. You meet/greet adopt after approved, so you never need to go to an event to adopt a pup/dog from us! In each dogs bio is the link to apply. https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/ That is the application link for many of the dogs/pups we adopt. It is the application for all of Pet Central SATX Rescues dogs/pups. However, we do help out other rescues as well. Optimally, check a dogs write up as the link to that dogs rescue WILL be in the bio/write up. This link works for MOST of the dogs we adopt out: https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/ An article about what we do.

More about this rescue

We used to call ourselves Shayne's Rescue as we used to rescue dogs. Now, we are Shayne's Fosters as we foster TX rescue pups & dogs.. We assist several TX rescuers where shelters kill 80-99% of what comes in besides the millions and millions of strays on the streets. Hence, we foster for TX rescues who do impeccable jobs of vetting, quarantine all of their pups/dogs and send up the best dogs we have ever met. All have a health certificate prior to transport (vet visit). We work super hard volunteering and we can always use more assistance from volunteers!

Please do apply. We have so many dogs and puppies available.
This application we always see, for our long term partner Pet Central SATX Rescue.
