My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to our gorgeous guy, Gus! The way to this funny pup’s heart is simple -- pets, scratches and massages, as much as you have time for!

It’s hard to say no to Gus’ soulful eyes and perky ears! He is a social boy who absolutely adores meeting new people and getting to know them. The most exciting time of the day is walk time, and he loves to sniff and investigate all the wild scents of the neighborhood. Gus is also obsessed with toys of all kinds, and he is always a happy dog when he gets to figure out a puzzle toy or enjoy a chew toy.

In his time with us at the Adoption Center, Gus has made great strides in his doggy social skills and has learned a lot from playing with other dogs. He is super playful with the canine friends he has made, and would do well with more playtime practice with patient pups.

  • Gus would probably be a great fit for most families.
  • Gus is a confident walker and would probably do well in most neighborhoods.

*The ASPCA Adoption Center encourages a $150 suggested adoption fee when adopting an animal. This suggested adoption fee allows the ASPCA to continue our lifesaving work and help even more animals in need. We are grateful for any and all amounts given at the time of adoption.*

**The ASPCA is committed to prioritizing the health and safety of the community, the animals in our care and our staff, and we are keeping a close eye on developments related to the COVID-19 crisis as they evolve. As such, the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City is currently closed for in-person visitors. However, we are excited to offer remote adoptions using video conferencing! In-person meet-and-greets are also sometimes available or required for specific animals. Please check out our available cats and dogs above, and if one catches your eye, apply directly for him or her. An ASPCA Matchmaker will let you know if the animal you are interested in adopting is eligible for or requires an in-person meet-and-greet.

More about this shelter

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. Our organization was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, we are recognized as a national animal welfare organization. We are a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and proud to boast more than 1 million supporters across the country.
