My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pepper!

She is the brave survivor who has overcome tremendous obstacles to find a second chance at life. Her journey with us began on June 20th, 2024, when animal control discovered her after she was struck by a car and left for dead. Pepper's condition was critical, with shallow breathing, consciousness but lack of alertness, and complete immobility, leading us to fear for the worst.

Thanks to the swift actions of our team and the skilled care of the veterinarians, Pepper defied the odds and showed remarkable resilience. Despite requiring surgery to fix her pelvis and hips, and being heartworm positive, she never lost her fighting spirit. Days turned into weeks as Pepper recovered at the shelter, gradually regaining her strength and health.

As Pepper's physical wounds began to heal, we started to uncover the scars of her painful past. It became clear that she had suffered trauma at the hands of men, leading to deep-seated fear and anxiety. It was also evident she was being used for breeding purposes.

Through patience and gentle care, Pepper slowly started to trust again, revealing her loving and affectionate nature underneath the layers of hurt.

Despite making multiple human friends, including some males, Pepper remains extremely fearful of larger men. She becomes tense and on edge when they are present, and triggers a dark side of her past.

Today, Pepper is heartworm negative, spayed, and medically cleared, ready to embark on the next chapter of her life. While she still struggles with using one of her legs, the vet assures us that it's a matter of building muscle strength rather than a permanent injury. Despite her past experiences, Pepper remains a loving and gentle soul, especially drawn to children and other dogs.

As Pepper searches for her forever home, we hope to find a family who will cherish her as much as she deserves. Her sweet smile and tender kisses are a testament to her capacity for love and forgiveness, inspiring all who meet her. After all she has been through, Pepper is a reminder of the resilience and hope that can blossom from even the darkest of circumstances.
