My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hi to Merle! This super smart, loyal and loving, 2 year old, 30# boy gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is house trained with a doggy door and is a great boy on leash. Merle is crate trained at night however he prefers (and can be trusted) to be out and about during the day with access to a dog door. He is gentle and loves his people. Merle is an extra special and as a result of irresponsible breeding (Double Merle gene), is hearing impaired and some limited vision. While Merle is really people focused, he would be happiest with another dog that is outgoing and confident to help be his daily friend and guide. Merle is a poodle mix of sorts, likely with Aussie, does shed and will require quarterly grooming. He will need a fully fenced yard or would be fine living apartment life, going out to potty on leash with his people since he cannot hear cars and other dangers. His sense of smell is spot on and other senses are heightened- his foster reports that he is the easiest foster she's ever had!

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. ALL CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200. Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
