Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Before wanting her based off her photo (we know she is cute) please read this full description due to her being sick and needing a special home.
She is a mini bernedoodle mix. She’s just a puppy at almost 4 months old. Our friends at another rescue asked if we could take her due to her likely having health issues and the “breeder” couldn’t sell her as such. So, we said yes. Let’s give this little girl a chance at a life!
Long story short; she has a liver shunt. Basically, blood bypasses her liver due to an abnormal connection. This means that her liver isn’t removing toxins or other byproducts. To start off; she needs a very specific diet. She is eating a food for liver issues and doing exceptionally well on it. If she were to eat any other dog food, human food, cat food, etc symptoms are severe and are scary to witness. She has seizures, loss of balance, etc. There is no room for error and this diet must be followed for Little Pea’s best interest.
Our veterinarian will walk a potential foster to adopter through this medical condition and explain next steps, etc with an interested individual.
Little Pea absolutely loves dogs, loves kids, and is good (but annoying) with cats.
We feel there has to be someone out there willing to give Little Pea a chance at knowing what a home feels like ??

More about this shelter
The Central PA Humane Society (CPHS) was established in 1964. We are a non profit 501c3 who receives no government or national rescue organization funding. We survive solely on grants we apply for, our fundraisers we put on and donations from our community. We are a 'life saving' shelter and only ever euthanize animals that are deemed dangerous to our staff and volunteers. This is after we have tried training, foster homes etc to give that animal every chance at a life outside of the shelter. We do euthanize animal that have life threatening injuries or illness that cannot be medically treated by a veterinarian.
CPHS has a dedicated team of staff and volunteers that cater to every animal in their care. We have enrichment programs for both dogs and cats to enable their time with us to be enjoyable and less stressful. We are very proud of our canine cardio and foster for the day programs than allow dogs to leave our facility and get some time out being walked or simply chilling out in someones home.
Our fundraisers are hugely popular in the community with events such as; Chili Fest, Bikers for Barkers, Paws in the Park, Fur Ball, Chocoholics Night out, Mimosas on the Lake to name a few! These fundraisers are instrumental in helping us look after the nearly 1,800 animals that come through our doors.
