Meet Rosaria! This sweet six-year-old pittie mix may not stand out from the crowd on first glance, but take just a minute to get to know her and she will surely leave a lasting impression on your heart. Rosaria was found abandoned on a porch on October 1st, her face and neck covered with scars and bite wounds in various stages of healing. In spite of this painful past, our resilient Rosaria hasn't let these hardships keep her down. Rosaria, affectionately nicknamed Rosie, has proven herself to be a loving and mellow pup and even spent a week in a staff member's office! Here's what her office mates had to say about their furry companion:
"Little Rosaria is an absolute gem! She's not terribly interested in other dogs, but that's because she is focused on loving every person she meets. Although she does enjoy a nice walkies, Rosie is definitely a homebody. Her favorite activity is power napping next to her humans. Rosie stayed in my office for about a week, and was always very well behaved. She welcomed any visitors, and was so trustworthy that we didn't even need to crate her overnight! She is an excellent little hippo, and will make someone very happy."
"Rosaria is a super affectionate gal who just wants to love on the people around her. Once she gets to know you, she doubles that love! She was the best behaved girl while she was in our office (she had to move out due to her doggy cold). Never bothered with the trash or chewed anything up. She moved in and out of her open crate with ease usually preferring the doggy bed to frequently nap in, but also was fine being crated(not that we ever had to really shut her in). Several times I walked her past office cats and she would look at them with interest but never really show any reaction other than that. She walks great on leash and almost always did her business outside (only when she wasn't walked frequently enough did she potty in the office and even then, she did it on the potty pads). Occasionally, Rosaria would balk at the medical treatments she needed but never aggressive and always relented (I would probably complain about several eye medications being given multiple times a day as well). Rosaria has had a tough life prior to coming to the shelter and is ready to make some lucky person(s) a forever family member! All she needs is love!"
Sadly, Rosaria has not yet found a fur-ever family to give her the home she deserves. Rosie is looking for a single-dog home, as she prefers spending time with her human companions over canine friends. Once adopted, Rosie will need ongoing medical care for Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS) in her left eye, and requires further followup at a private veterinarian for a corneal ulcer in her right eye. But we know this gentle girl is more than worth the extra vet care, and will amply reward her adoptive family with all the love and snuggles they could ever ask for.

BEHAVIORAL INFORMATION
Staff noted on 10/1: "Dog appears social and has solicited attention throughout entire time with dog."
Staff noted on 10/2: "Hung out with Rosaria at her kennel for a bit this morning, as she did not want to leave it at all. She was lying on her bed and gave me some wags when I approached. I sat on the edge of the kennel and spent around 20-30 minutes with her. She never moved form her bed but was very sweet! She allowed all handling and even gave some kisses. She took treats very gently as well. Very sweet girl."
Staff noted on 10/8: "Saw Rosaria out this morning and spent some time with her. Rosaria walked fantastic on leash and pulled minimally and while out she was sweet and social with everyone she met. She allowed all handling and was very friendly with staff, allowing all over pets. She is a super sweet and well mannered outside and is a very easy to handle girl!"
On 10/9, staff noted that a dog meet conducted by an ACCT rescue partner revealed Rosaria was uncomfortable around the other dog. They noted: "Per rescue partner Rosaria was not great for her dog meet. They said that Rosaria showed interest and was unreactive but once close to the other dog she would give lip licks, low growls, and try to disengage."
MEDICAL INFORMATION
A 10/9 medical exam noted that Rosaria had contracted an upper respiratory infection. She began a course of antibiotics that day and her course of medication concluded on 10/22.
A 10/2 veterinary exam noted: "Subjective: Lethargic stray dog, possibly pregnant. Objective: Eyes - mucoid discharge OU. Blepharospasm, corneal edema and obvious corneal defect OD. Ears WNL. Mouth - MM pink, worn and stained dentition w/ mild calculus. Skin - Scars and bite wounds in various stages of healing on face and neck. LN WNL. Heart, lungs auscultate WNL. Abdomen - tense, distended. Engorged mammary and vulva, no milk let down. QAR. Assessment: Deep infected corneal ulceration OD. Mild KCS OS. Fleas. Late term pregnancy. Plan: Abdominal radiograph: multiple calcified fetal skeletons noted. STT OU: 20 mm/min OD, 10 mm/min OS. Fluorescein stain: + uptake OD. Tobramycin OD TID. Ofloxacin OD TID. Capstar PO at time of exam. Status changed to rescue only. To monitor closely for signs of labor, as there is a significant possibility that dog will not be able to deliver naturally due to body conformation." After conferring with a second veterinarian who reviewed Rosaria's radiographs and medical notes, it was determined that delivery would pose a significant risk to Rosaria based on her medical condition and body conformation, including a pelvis that was much narrower than usual. An ovariohysterectomy was performed on 10/4/24.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.
Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.
All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.
