Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cobalt`s people had to move to a special facility and with no options for Cobalt, brought him back to the shelter he started in five long years ago. He lived a quiet, routine and predictable life as an only pet, a very loyal one. He`s very house trained, never had accidents at home, and was able to stay alone when his people were gone for 4-8 hours. He was a big baby cuddle bug with his own set of toys. The transition back into shelter life was tough and abrupt to lose all of that. Still he`s forever optimistic of everyone who passes by his kennel, that they`ve brought him a treat, a walk, or better yet a pathway out of the shelter. Cobalt would like to return to his home comforts without further delay. He has some great advocates at the shelter including Classic Canines and Orange Dot and we`re all here ready to connect you up with Cobalt.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
