My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I’m Red! I want to make your day every morning with my handsome looks and infectious smile. I am a Fox Red Lab mix and I am about 18-24 months old. Red Labs are a variation of the Yellow Lab and I am a real looker, if I do say so myself!! I LOVE people of all ages and all sizes. In fact, I love my people so much, I would like a home where someone is home most of the time. If you have the time to give me exercise and love, I could become your perfect companion!

Red came to our rescue when his owner was jailed and the sister was no longer able to take care of Red. Red has lived with both dogs and cats in his former home and in our vet's boarding area, Red is amicable with all of the other dogs. His kennel is toward the back of the facility and when he is let out for his potty and exercise time, Red goes to all of the other dogs' kennels and greets each one with a happy tail wag.

Red is considered the "poet" within our group of dogs - always looking out and gazing, deep in thought, as he wishes for his forever home where he will be showered with attention and love. Heather, our photographer, remarks that Red is the nicest dog ever! She shares, "He has great manners. He doesn’t bark or get impatient when he sees me tending to the other pups; he wags his tail and wiggles but doesn’t bark or paw at the gate. I have yet to see him eat a treat. It’s like he has a biscuit and bone store in his run! He seemed a little timid at the outset but has warmed up and is just lovely. He likes to run around and would love to be with someone or other dogs to play with. "Red loves being outside rolling in the grass, or maybe even some snow!

Red is a wonderful dog and is just waiting for his forever family to find him! He is housebroken and loves to go for walks. He is very easy-going and would even be a nice match for a first-time dog owner. Red weighs about 70 lbs and is a handsome, hunky fellow who is a sucker for attention and belly rubs. Red is heartworm-negative, has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and is microchipped. He received a Proheart 6 injection for heartworm prevention so he will not need any additional HW preventative for 6 months. He will come north in mid-November to be directly adopted.

If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl to be considered to adopt this sweet, wonderful boy. If not yet approved, please fill out an application to be considered. Oh, before you run off to contact Cheryl or submit an application, be sure to watch Red's video!!

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to take on whatever comes with the dog. It is up to YOU to continue the rehabilitation we have begun. This is what it means to rescue.

If you would like to be part of Red's rescue story and are already approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered to adopt Red.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
